Update Regarding California and Colorado’s Exemptions for Open Source Software

We are aware of California and Colorado’s proposed exemptions for open source software, this is a massive victory, but other states remain.

We remain in discussion with lawyers and our partners regarding our obligations under these and similar laws.

We are aware of California, Colorado, and New York's age assurance and verification laws.

We’re in active conversation with our partners and legal experts about our obligations under these laws, and how we can minimize the effects on the Linux ecosystem and our users.

Fyra Labs opposes any legislation requiring ID verification for use of digital services, California and Colorado's laws don't require an ID, but lay the groundwork for expansion in the future.

The web was designed as an open place, centralization around identity providers to comply with laws that do not understand the landscape is problematic as we keep moving forward. Call your representatives, tell them to talk to small tech too.

Update Regarding systemd’s Addition of Age to Account Records and Potential xdg Portals

We are aware that systemd has added support for a birthday field to account records, and of discussion surrounding a standard for reporting age.

We continue to be in discussion with lawyers and our partners regarding our obligations under this law.
